The good news is that we're announcing these changes now in early November so that you have time to act! This is your chance to still utilize our multi-year discount option* if you still wish to before January 2026, and lock in current pricing. The discounting is as follows:

Updates to the Customer Area

When you login to the customer area and navigate to the My Cloud Subscriptions section, you will now see additional "+ Upgrade" buttons that were not listed before. These let you upgrade either the edition of a core product (e.g. SpiraPlan number of concurrent users) or an individual add-on to that product (e.g. Rapise floating licenses). In cases where the subscription add-on requires license party with the core product (e.g. Inflectra.ai), the Upgrade button is missing. To change the number of licenses of Inflectra.ai (for example), you just meed to adjust the number of concurrent users of Spira itself.

When you click on the + Upgrade button, you are taken to a new screen where you can choose which flavor (SpiraTest, SpiraTeam or SpiraPlan) and edition (number of concurrent users) of the product you want to change to.

The prices listed in the table are the difference in price between your current product/edition and the proposed product/edition. These prices are based on the current remaining length of your subscription.

When you choose a specific product and edition, the customer portal will provide you the option to confirm the upgrade.

Clicking the Upgrade Edition button will then take you to the page where you can enter in your payment information:

Once you have entered in your payment information, click Upgrade Edition, and the change in product/edition will take place immediately.

What If You Cannot Use A Credit Card?

If you are not able (or allowed) to use a credit card, don't worry. Simply reach out to our sales team, and we will be happy to create a formal upgrade price quote for you. That way you can purchase the upgrade using a Purchase Order (PO), AWS Marketplace, or Bank Transfer instead.

Improvements to the Partner Portal for Co-Sell Referrals

Synchronization with Inflectra's CRM System

Our new and improved partner portal includes a major update to the referral and lead tracking system. This system allows our partners (both technology and solution) to easily and quickly register new leads into the partner portal. These leads can be simply registered for visibility - when the partner wants to lead and work on these opportunities by themselves - or registered for co-sell support - where the Inflectra account team will actively assist the partner with product demonstrations, POC assistance and any other needs they have.

When a deal is registered for co-sell assistance, it will automatically synchronize the referral with the Inflectra CRM platform that is used to track all customer contact. The CRM system will automatically assign an Inflectra account manager to the deal based on the geography and industry of the customer.

The synchronization will then automatically update the lead in the partner portal daily with any changes to the status of the deal (if it moves sales stages and/or is considered won or lost) as well as any changes to the assigned account manager.

In addition, the partner portal will send out an automated email to both Inflectra and the partner, keeping everyone aligned on the status of the referral. This way, the partner can know immediately if there is action they need to take.

We’re excited about these enhancements and the value they bring to our shared sales efforts. With this new functionality, we’re not just streamlining collaboration—we’re deepening our commitment to building stronger, more responsive partnerships that drive success for everyone involved.

As part of this modernization initiative, we are announcing the retirement of TaraVault, our source code management platform, by early April 2025. While TaraVault has served our customers well over the years, the time has come to transition to more modern solutions that can better support your needs. With the move towards cloud-based continuous integration, continuous deployment, and AI-optimized DevOps, we aim to dramatically improve our integration with the two leading code management platforms: GitLab and GitHub.

This transition is an important step forward in our efforts to equip you with the most advanced tools and ensure our offerings align with the latest industry standards. We already provide multiple layers of integration with these two platforms, including:

The ability to connect GitHub and GitLab code repositories for code viewing and traceability in Spira
The ability to integrate GitHub Actions and GitLab Workflows into our Spira platform

Your solution partner level: platinum, gold, silver or blue
If you are a technology partner, and if so, which category you belong to
Your Inflectra account number (used for billing inquiries)
If you are a registered sales affiliate, what your current "tracking token" and commission is

What is Changing?

On January 1st, 2025, our pricing for customers on standard pricing, will increase by 8% for purchases, renewals, and upgrades based on adjustments to handle inflation for the past 2 years. For those customers on "Classic" or "Legacy" pricing, the price rise will be larger, reflecting the fact that the pricing for these older customers is lower than the current pricing, and the plan is to eventually have those prices converge.

What Can I Do Now?

The good news is that we're announcing these changes now in October so that you have time to act! This is your chance to still utilize our multi-year discount option* if you still wish to before January 2025, and lock in current pricing. The discounting is as follows:

1 year prepaid is 10% discount
2 year prepaid is 15% discount
3 year prepaid is 20% discount

*the multi-year discounts do not apply to customers on Legacy/Classic pricing plans.

Migrating from Jira Server to SpiraPlan: The Saab Experience

The Challenge

Saab AB, a leading aerospace and defense company, operates globally, offering advanced products and services. As a hub of technological innovation, Saab has been utilizing the Atlassian suite, including Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket, to manage its extensive software development lifecycle across various teams.

In 2021, Atlassian announced the discontinuation of its JIRA Server by 2024. This posed a significant challenge for Saab, necessitating a robust, long-term alternative that supported on-premise solutions that matched or exceeded Atlassian's functionality for large-scale, distributed product development. After thoroughly researching and evaluating 40 potential solutions, Saab chose SpiraPlan from Inflectra for its forward-thinking capabilities and alignment with their data-driven objectives.

The Solution: SpiraPlan

The transition to SpiraPlan began with a Proof of Concept (POC) in 2022. SpiraPlan's then-new Scaled Agile planning features offered enhanced visibility and planning capabilities, surpassing what was available in Jira. It allowed Saab to enhance top-down visibility and planning, aligning with their strategy to be more efficient in software engineering.

Migration Tool Development

A unique challenge emerged in migrating Saab's complex systems from Jira to SpiraPlan, requiring a bespoke migration approach. To address this, Inflectra collaborated with partner Tietoevry to develop the Advanced Jira-to-Spira Migration Tool, offering flexible, user-controlled migration of issues, product and program structures, and more. The tool provides detailed configuration files and data scrubbing features for efficient, iterative migration to SpiraPlan. This migration tool was used in the POC at Saab Ab, enabling the organization to seamlessly migrate over 20 projects and 90,000 issues from Jira to SpiraPlan.

Getting Started with the Migration Tool

The migration tool is available on Inflectra’s GitHub repository and includes comprehensive documentation and example configurations. Users can clone the repo, install necessary Python packages, and customize the settings for their unique migration needs. Here is the step-by-step guide to get started with the tool:

Clone the repo locally
Make sure your machine is using at least Python 3.10
Navigate to the local repo’s folder from the command line.
Run the command: “pip install -r requirements.txt” to install the required Python packages.
Make a copy of the “.env.template” file called “.env” in the root folder of the repo, and fill in all the relevant connection information for Jira and Spira.
Open the “mapping_template.yaml” example configuration file and edit it as needed.

Adam's Talk at DCTAV

During the session, Adam discussing the founding of Inflectra, why he chose to bootstrap the company rather than raise money, how he intentionally created a company culture that fosters work-life balance and employee flexibility. Customer Portal Enhanced to Allow More Than Two Contacts

Overview of the Customer Portal

The Inflectra customer portal (also known as the Customer Area) is the place where you can manage all of your accounts with us. It lets you sign up for new products and services, view and make changes to your current services, and also access any downloads or license keys for self-hosted products. In addition, it allows you to view your past invoices with us, request quotes and pay any outstanding bills.

Previously, the customer portal allowed only two users to be listed as named contacts on the account:

Billing / Primary User - this is the primary user on the account, and is usually used by the person responsible for purchasing, finance and business.
Shipping / Alternate User - this is the technical user on the account, and is usually used by the IT administrator, responsible for managing license keys, downloads and cloud subscriptions.

For a typical customer, that meant you would see something like the following:

In addition to being able to access the customer area, view information and make changes to the account, these users will also receive email notifications from Inflectra:

Transactional emails - these are sent to notify the users that one of the subscriptions is expiring soon or notifying them about a change on the account (e.g. new service purchased, change in a subscription, etc.)
News emails - these are sent to let the users know of upcoming webinars, product releases, conferences and other useful information about the service.

Finally, the two named account holders are the only users authorized to make any changes on the account or request the reset of any passwords. If you have emailed or called our support desk requesting a service change or password reset, you will already have experienced this first hand. We have instituted this policy to protect your account and prevent any social engineering attacks.

You can change the Billing and Shipping users on the account (if you are already one of the two users) using the Edit Customer Account and Change option:

Any change made to these users will send an email to the existing / replacement user's email addresses.

What's Changed?

The new update to our website, now allows customers (and partners) to have have other users listed on a customer account in addition to the Billing / Shipping users listed above. These users are termed additional users. You can use the Add Additional User button to add such a user:

If they already have a user account, then they will be added automatically for you:

If they do not yet have an account, you can click the Notify button and they will be asked to create an account first.

Once they have been added, they will be able to do the following things:

Login to the customer portal to view the product downloads, license keys, cloud subscriptions, quotes and invoices
Configure certain items such as the cloud subscription add-ons (e.g the cloud data sync service)
Renew and extend product subscriptions, both cloud and on-premise

They will not be able to do the following:

Edit the customer profile or make changes to the users listed on the account
Reset the password of any linked cloud services such as Spira or KronoDesk

In addition, these additional users will receive some (but not all) of the transactional emails sent from our website, and depending on their email preferences, they will typically receive all of the news emails (unless they opt-out).

What You Need to Do

Please login to your Customer Portal as soon as possible and:

Make sure that the two main (primary/billing and shipping/alternate) contacts are correct. They are effectively the two administrators of the customer account and can manage other users.
Add as many other account contacts as you need. The additional users will be notified on important email communications and also can login to retrieve license keys and downloads

The SOC 2 audit is one the highest recognized standards of information security compliance in the world. It was developed by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) to allow a third-party auditor to validate a service company’s internal controls with respect to information security. The SOC 2 Audited Report is the auditor’s opinion on how an organization’s security controls meet the SOC 2 criteria.

To obtain our audited SOC 2 Report, a third-party auditor reviewed our internal controls including policies, procedures and infrastructure regarding data security, firewall configurations, change management, logical access, backup and disaster recovery, security incident response and other critical areas of our business.

We have completed an internal audit and scan of KronoDesk and its add-ons and none are affected by the log4j vulnerability.

Rapise Toolset

We have completed an internal audit and scan of Rapise and it is not affected by the log4j vulnerability. It uses a similar library log4net that provides similar functionality for .NET applications, but does not suffer from the same vulnerability.

Inflectra Migrating Bank Accounts to Bank of America from HSBC

Background

Since its inception in 2006, Inflectra Corporation has used HSBC Bank USA as its primary banking partner. We chose HSBC in 2006 because of our planned focus on International customers and businesses around the world. We knew that making it easy and convenient for our customers and suppliers to do business with us regardless of their geographic location was important. For the past 15 years we have enjoyed the support and assistance from HSBC.

However on May 27th, 2021, HSBC Holdings announced that it would be divesting its entire US branch network to two different banks - Citizens Bank and Cathay Bank. This divestiture is planned to take effect sometime at the end of 2021 / early 2022. Upon the closing of the transaction, all existing HSBC business accounts will be transitioned over to new SWIFT codes and Account Numbers. Since this would result in a large disruption to our customers, and because we did not believe that the successor banks would be a strategic fit for our business, Inflectra has been in the process of transitioning its business to a new partner - Bank of America, based in New York, NY and Charlotte, NC. Since we are able to continue both our new and old accounts in parallel until 2022, we believe that this approach will result in the least disruption for our customers, partners and suppliers.

In the following sections we will outline the changes (if any) you will need to plan for.

How Will This Affect Our Customers?

Customers Who Pay By EFT / ACH

For those US customers who typically pay Inflectra using the domestic electronic payment systems ACH or EFT, you will need to start using our new Bank of America ABA routing number and account numbers. You can get the correct ABA routing number by going to the Customer Area on our website and viewing any of your past invoices. All invoices now include the new banking information, regardless of the invoice date. You will know it is the correct information if it has routing number 052001633 for ACH payment, and 026009593 for wire payments. If you are using the older HSBC routing numbers and bank account numbers, they will continue to work until the end of 2021, but we recommend updating your records as soon as possible.

Customers Who Pay By Wire Transfer

For those International customers who typically pay Inflectra using the international SWIFT electronic payment system, you will need to start using our new Bank of America SWIFT BIC code and account numbers. You can get the correct SWIFT BIC code by going to the Customer Area on our website and viewing any of your past invoices. All invoices now include the new banking information, regardless of the invoice date. You will know it is the correct information if it has SWIFT BIC code BOFAUS3N and BOFAUS3NXXX. If you are using the older HSBC routing numbers and bank account numbers, they will continue to work until the end of 2021, but we recommend updating your records as soon as possible.

Customers Who Pay By Credit Card

Those customers that pay Inflectra using a credit card (Amex, Visa, MasterCard, Discover) or PayPal will not have to make any changes. We are using the same Merchant Services provider (Global Payments Inc.) and all payments are seamlessly being routed to our new Bank of America accounts.

Customers Who Pay By Check / Cheque

Those customers in the USA and Canada that mail us paper checks / cheques can continue to do so without any change. We are now depositing them into a Bank of America account vs. HSBC, but you should see no difference.

How Will This Affect Our Suppliers?

Finally, for our suppliers, we are now making all payments electronically either by credit card or by EFT/ACH/Wire from our Bank of America accounts. There should be no change from before except that the bank account you will see on your electronic receipts will have changed. There is no specific action you need to take. We have already migrated over all suppliers and vendors to Bank of America.

Rapise v.7 Release Date and Price Changes Announced

What else Is changing?

Pricing: With this new functionality, Rapise as a test automation system has reached a new level of maturity. To do justice to the tool, we are announcing a new price for Rapise effective July 1, 2021.

New Customers: all new licenses of Rapise will be sold at $3,999.99 per machine. The price change will be for license purchases and annual maintenance of new users that have not been using these products. We will continue to honor all active Rapise quotes issued before July 1, 2021.
Existing customers: the price for annual renewals will increase by 20%.

Licensing: Furthermore, in 2021, Inflectra plans to introduce Rapise floating licenses, whereby your team will be able to share a single Rapise license, similar to the much-liked concurrent licensing in our Spira editions. The monthly cost of the Rapise floating license will start at $299.99 and will be managed by Spira as a license server for Rapise.

In conclusion, if you already have unexpired quotes from us, we will continue to honor them at the price they were issued, so please make sure you place such orders as soon as possible.

Inflectra Services Overview

As we have worked with organizations looking to start using Spira and Inflectra products in their organizations, we have seen that there is a consistent need for the following assistance:

Custom report writing
Consulting to setup templates/workflows
Data migration assistance

As you know, every Inflectra product comes with our legendary technical support, which offers unlimited email, phone, help desk, forums, and knowledge base support. However, sometimes customers need more hands-on assistance than our support team can provide, but not large enough for one of our certified implementation partners. For example, our support team can assist you in migrating your data from a spreadsheet to SpiraTest, whereas our new implementation services would provide you with a person who would be dedicated to doing that migration for you!

The following sections, outline the types of assistance we can offer, in each of the three categories.

Custom Report Writing

Ever since we released the custom reporting and custom graphing features to Spira, users have been excited about the range of reports, graphs, and charts they can create. We frequently publish sample reports in our knowledge base and forums:

The custom reporting functionality lets you create tailored documents in Excel, Word, PDF, HTML, and Raw XML formats as well as create beautiful bar charts, donut charts, and line graphs that you can team can embed on their reporting dashboards.

However, some customers have asked us if we could create custom reports for them as part of their support. Much as we'd like to help, our support team is not structured and staffed in the way that allows them to provide such consulting and report creation. A large part of the effort in creating a custom report is understanding the customers' needs and mapping it to the data available in Spira. In many ways, the easiest part is usually the final creation of the report inside Spira.

Today, we are now pleased to announce that we are now able to provide custom report services by dedicated personnel (separate from our support organization). So if you're interested in having us create some custom reports for you, we can now help. Of course, for large projects, you can work with our implementation partners.

Consulting to Setup Templates/Workflows

Another common need from prospective customers that are just embarking on their journey with Spira is the need to configure the product templates, fields, and workflows to match their organization's standards and processes:

Most of our smaller customers will usually use our self-help training resources, using the intuitive user interface to add workflow steps, add/remove transitions, configure the fields in each workflow step, design the approvals, and add any necessary custom properties. For larger customers or those looking for a more accelerated implementation, we offer dedicated consultants who can consult with you to learn about your needs and design the appropriate workflows and product templates in the system.

Data Migration Assistance

Finally, the other large task that confronts customers will be the task of migrating data into Spira from their legacy systems (if they are lucky) or from a plethora of documents and spreadsheets (sadly very common). Spira comes with a wide variety of easy to use migration tools for document formats such as Excel, Word, Project and Google Sheets, as well as other tools such as Micro Focus ALM, TestRail, TestLink, TestDirector, Microsoft Test Manager, IBM DOORS, etc. So normally the migration is straightforward and can be performed entirely in-house:

When you have a large number of documents to be migrated, or their format needs some conversion before they can be used in our migration template, our dedicated implementation services professionals can take on this burden from you and your team.

Our implementation personnel will not only assist in doing the actual migration into Spira, but will also consult ahead of time to understand the data you are working with. This means they can offer suggestions and improvements to the data so that you can maximize the functionality in Spira and improve your processes rather than just blindly migrating your data and not being able to take advantage of the best practices 'baked' into Spira.

We see the current situation with respect to COVID-19 affecting these main areas of our operations:

General Economic Impacts

This is hard to predict, but we can expect to see that with the fall in the stock market and worries of global economic activity, the company won't be immune. Some of our prospects may decide to delay purchases because of budget freezes, some customers may choose not to renew because projects have been cancelled. For the most part, the ability of our products to cut costs and allow distributed collaboration may mean that some loss of business could be offset by gains. However to be prudent, even though we've had a strong start to the year, we are continuing to work under the assumption that the rest of the year may not be as strong, so the company will keep costs under control and avoid any unplanned expenditures. Any changes to this plan will be communicated to the teams immediately.

Company Offices

For those employees or contractors who work from our offices, we always have a liberal telework policy in place. However, in the context of COVID-19:

As per the CDC recommendations, we strongly encourage our colleagues that if they are feeling under the weather, it is better to take a day off or work from home (depending on how they feel) than to come into the office sick. It is Inflectra's standard policy that team members do not come to the office if they have any flu-like symptoms. This policy has become more strictly enforced of late
Should the situation in a specific metro areas worsen, Inflectra may decide to institute mandatory telework for all employees for a period of time for that office. So we recommend all teams make sure laptop, VPN, phone, and other tools work remotely now
In the meantime, we will be installing hand sanitisation stations at the entrance of our offices so that everyone can easily disinfect after going to the bathroom, using the elevator, etc. We have requested our landlords to install similar facilities in the building lobbies as well.

Additionally, all Inflectra team members should be aware by now that the company offers an excellent and generous health insurance package, including for its part-time employees.

In the short run, all employees are encouraged to seek medical attention if fever and/or flu-like symptoms are observed. As a best practice, we also recommend team members get their seasonal vaccinations taken care of in a timely fashion.
Should any member require assistance in getting their or their family health insurance adjusted, they are encouraged to follow the proper channels internally.

Travel & Conferences

The potentially biggest impact in the near term will be to our planned conference schedule. We are actively monitoring the upcoming events and working with the conference organizers to see if they will be going ahead as planned or will be cancelled. Currently no events have been cancelled, Swiss Testing Day is under review right now, and the word from JFTL, STPcon and TechWell is that they will proceed with additional precautions in place.

If a planned event is not cancelled by the organizers, our current plan is to attend the conference as planned, with extra precautions in place for the air travel and interactions at the booth / event. Depending on the severity of the situation in the location of the event and the health conditions of the proposed attendees, we may need to reassign some of the people we had planned on sending. If a team member is listed as attending an event and s/he doesn't feel comfortable attending, it should be communicated to the management and appropriate substitutions will be made. Similarly we may ask some colleagues in the coming weeks to step in and cover an event if someone else is not able to travel due to a health condition. All teams have an absolute right to decline travel at this point in time.

With the global pandemic raging outside our windows, we are offering help to our customers and the community of users in the following ways:

moving on-premise Spira instances to the cloud (AWS) to facilitate teleworking (cherry on top - take 20% off!)
additional staff training for Spira, and Rapise (free version available) as more staff and resources are being re-assigned to testing, QA and automation
fast-tracking the provision of additional licenses for new team members or newly trained staff (take 20% off!)
extending all existing Inflectra trials to avoid loss of clients' data and to allow for a more in-depth understanding of powerful capabilities of our software products
providing guidance on how to telework and teleTEST effectively, including while using Rapise and Spira family of products.

Introducing the Inflectra Global Technology Initiative

Background

Since one of our company Core Values is "Second Acts," we are always looking for ways to give opportunities to people. In the past, we have provided support for people transitioning into the technology discipline through freeCodeCamp - an online community for aspiring programmers. We provided internships and career mentoring to graduates of freeCodeCamp, helping them get the experience necessary for their first technology jobs.

In addition, on a larger scale we have supported the Codo a Codo program in Argentina. This initiative was developed by the Ministry of Education and Innovation of the City of Buenos Aires to train students in the arts of programming and software testing and thus be able to join the most innovative companies in the technology sector or develop their own startups as entrepreneurs. Inflectra provided (and continues to provide) the software and hosting for the tools used to run the classroom.

In addition, Inflectra supports other institutions of higher education in their mission, including RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, and the UPC School in Barcelona, Spain.

Overview of the Program

Background

During 2019 we conducted a review of Inflectra's products and services to compare them to similar tools and products on the market from our competitors. Furthermore, during our InflectraCon 2019 conference, we solicited feedback from customers on our company, products, service and pricing and found out that our products were underpriced vis-a-vis the value they offered. After conducting a comprehensive market research exercise in late 2019, we determined that our prices had not kept pace with the market.

In parallel, we are looking to build out our products and services further in the next two years to address needs that we identified in the market. So it makes sense that we change our current pricing to position ourselves better for growth. As you know one of our company's key missions is to "build for our users and not for Wall Street", we therefore want to make sure we have the features and infrastructure in place for the long haul.

The changes we're making to the pricing are designed to be affordable to our customers who value having solutions that are powerful, easy to use, and deliver a superior return on investment. So although the prices will be going up overall, we believe that we continue to offer the best value in the industry for a complete set of tools to manage your software projects. In addition, we will not be making any additional price changes for at least the next two years.

Improvements In Our Service in 2019

We have been busy adding new features to the Spira platform this year, including:

In addition to the new features, we have migrated our cloud hosting to Amazon Web Services (AWS) using high performance Solid State Drives (SSD) and local hosting options. The combination of lower network latency, application improvements and better database performance (because of the SSD drives), has resulted in a 300% increase in performance.

What To Expect in 2020

Looking forward to 2020, we will boost the value Inflectra brings to you in the following critical directions:

Support - we will be improving our customer support experience (which is already highly rated in the industry) to include more options for 24x7 coverage so that we can be available around the clock when our customers need us
Functionality - we will be focusing on adding functionality to improve the support for regulated industries, large-scale projects and programs, and a general overhaul of the reporting and analytics features
TaraVault - in 2020 we are making TaraVault free. Starting in 2020, TaraVault will no longer require a separate fee to use and an unlimited number of TaraVault users will be included for free with every SpiraTeam and SpiraPlan subscription. So if you are using alternative tools such as GitHub, GitLab or BitBucket, you may want to consider migrating to TaraVault.

Changes to Spira Pricing

For new customers, we will be raising the prices for the cloud and on-premise versions of SpiraTest, SpiraTeam, and SpiraPlan by approximately 40%. These prices changes will be for the subscriptions, license purchases, and annual maintenance of new users that have not been using these products in 2019.

For existing customers, we will be limiting the price rise to approximately 20%. These prices changes will be for the subscription renewals, product upgrades, and annual maintenance. We will provide (by email) a special discount code so that existing customers can automatically reduce the price during checkout. We will also proactively apply this special pricing when we provide quotes.

Other Products

For users of our other products: Rapise, KronoDesk, there are no plans to change these prices, and the prices for 2019 will continue into 2020 unchanged.

In conclusion, if you already have unexpired quotes from us, we will continue to honor them at the price they were issued, so please make sure you place such orders as soon as possible.

About Exploratory Testing

Cem Kaner, who coined the term Exploratory Testing, described it as "a style of software testing that emphasizes the personal freedom and responsibility of the individual tester.” During this freeform, intuitive approach to testing, the testing steps and path are not predefined and have to be manually captured. The flow and steps of a testing session are important for effective communication between testers and developers. At Inflectra, we strive to make this communication faster and easier.

Stage 1: Exploratory Testing Mode

In version 5.3 of SpiraTest’s testing module, we added a dedicated exploratory testing mode. Any test case marked as “exploratory” is run in this mode. Here, a tester can edit everything about their testing session on the fly: capturing what they are doing as they are doing it in a way that other testers or devs can easily follow. They can rerun the same testing session and change or refine it each time. Once exploring a new feature is complete the test can be turned into a regression test, if needed.

Stage 2: Capture Your Testing Session Automatically

Customers (and our in-house testers) love our exploratory testing mode. It has become an essential part of many businesses QA workflow. But, there are times when you want to know exactly what you did to produce a problem in an application under test. What sequence of clicks or url changes got the app into that weird state? By recording everything significant that the tester does, automatically, in the background, a whole session can be reviewed, one click at a time.

Introducing SpiraCapture

Today we are launching SpiraCapture, Inflectra’s new Chrome extension. SpiraCapture intelligently records and organises your whole testing session. When you discover an issue, you can select the exact sequence that reproduces the problem and log it as incident into the right Spira product. SpiraCapture works with versions of SpiraTest, SpiraTeam, and SpiraPlan 6.1 and above, and is free of charge.

How does SpiraCapture work?

SpiraCapture will record any tabs you want in Chrome. It tracks actions such as clicks and keystrokes automatically on each tab being recorded. While testing, you can add Steps to help organize where you are in your testing session. You can also add notes to remind yourself of when a specific issue happened.

What to do with your data?

It’s easy to look at your captured testing data: during testing, or at the end of a session. The data is broken up by the Steps you have made, and by the testing time. Web applications can be messy, but we have designed SpiraCapture to capture data so that the developer will know exactly what was clicked, or where text was entered.

Each event recorded can be selected and then saved in Spira as an incident. Login to Spira, choose a project and incident type and give the incident a title. Any data and images you have selected get included with the incident. All you have to do is get back to testing and let us handle the capturing!

Our new SpiraCapture tool is free for anyone to use. The built-in preview option, makes communication even easier. It shows what information will get sent to SpiraTest, in plain and portable HTML. If you don’t have SpiraTest, you can copy and paste the HTML into whatever application you want. The data never leaves Chrome, and no sign up to any account with Inflectra is needed.

With our global footprint and desire to better service customers around the world, we offer SpiraTeam, SpiraPlan, SpiraTest, and KronoDesk cloud-hosted in a variety of different geographies - USA, Europe, and Australia. We offer these different choices so that customers can choose the location that provides the best performance and legal compliance for them. For example, our existing USA based hosting offers excellent performance when accessed from Canada, but there are some other considerations when it comes to data privacy and location.

Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act

The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) in Canada, protects consumer data across the country (in addition, Canadian provinces have additional regulations that sectors must follow). PIPEDA holds private organizations accountable for protecting information during transit and outsourcing.

Federal government institutions are subject to the country’s Privacy Act, which outlines how personal information is stored and collected. At present, there is a proposal that would prohibit classified data from leaving the country.

Alberta and Quebec restrict the transfer of public sector personal data outside of the nation. British Columbia and Nova Scotia prohibit government institutions, Crown agents, and their service providers from moving personal data outside Canada, with limited exceptions.

Ontario prohibits the disclosure of health-related information without the individual’s expressed consent in PHIPA, the Personal Health Information Protection Act.

Depending on where your company is located and what type of business you operate, you may be unable to transfer data outside of Canada

Since Inflectra has customers located in various different provinces in Canada, and we have key features in our products for regulated industries such as Healthcare and Life Sciences, it made sense for us to offer hosting in Canada to simply compliance for new and potential customers. Furthermore, we do not differentiate the pricing for our hosting options, so you can choose any region and still pay the same monthly (or annual) fee.

Inflectra Platform Chosen to Teach Testing Best Practices in Argentina

Background

One in three IT professionals are dedicated to the testing of software applications. This is not only because it is necessary to verify that the applications work correctly, but also because they need to work together with other systems. In the IT industry today, the challenge is system integration, and performing end to end scenario testing that makes sure that the entire solution works together as expected. It is only possible after such arduous testing - that requires not only the correct operation of the system, but also that it has adequate performance - that the IT solution can be put into production.

It was identified that there is a deficiency in this specialty in the classroom, and in Argentina specifically, there are no official certifications and regular training courses, or if there are, they are very expensive and require certifications to be done overseas.

First Official Testing Course

Inflectra's Argentina office saw the need and we have volunteered to assist the City of Buenos Aires Ministry of Education by sponsoring an initiative to bring modern software testing (and project management) best practices into the classroom for the first time. The curriculum will include such important topics as: What is Software Quality and Application Testing, the role of the Tester in the production of Software Applications, Types of Testing, Test Plan, Test Cases and their Execution, Defects, their classification, Acceptance criteria, Exit and End Criteria, and Metrics and estimates", how the testing is measured, its effectiveness, and its density.

All these topics will taught using our SpiraTeam, test management and ALM solution so that the students will end up with not only theoretical but practical knowledge of software testing and management. The course will introduce them to several different technologies, using professional tools which they will find themselves using in their professional life as Testers. Subsequent modules in the curriculum will include the topic of test automation, covering both functional testing and load testing. For these parts of the course, we are providing Rapise and our partner Neotys is providing Neoload that will be used for the practical learning of how to perform test automation in the real world.

Interns will explore, among other things, new trends in software development, testing, and quality assurance; compare products on the market and research how customers interact and experience software technology, including Inflectra's own software. Interns will receive feedback on their blog posts, will learn about the tech space from the inside of an entrepreneurial tech company and will have their pieces published on company's digital media platforms. If you’re looking to build your portfolio, this is the perfect opportunity. And you get to work with a team of techies in an upbeat, chill and, importantly, a socially-responsible tech company.

Ideally, you are:

a tech-savvy blogger

In order to show our support for the people of Japan who are suffering from the combined effects of the recent Earthquake and Tsunami, Inflectra Corporation will be donating 1% of its March sales to the relief effort. We shall be donating the funds at the end of the month to the Red Cross Relief Effort. Our thoughts are with the people of Japan at this time.

We are pleased to announce that we have established a strategic partnership with nFocus Ltd. to better provide an integrated set of testing products and services to customers in the UK.

As part of our Certified Solution Provider program, nFocus will be offering Inflectra products to all its existing customers for test management purposes. The company will also offer Inflectra's products to other organisations that are currently undertaking software development and testing.
