How do I do backlog grooming properly

We have collected quite a few requirements and I want to use the backlog to prioritise them simply by ordering them.

However, whenever I change settings, or more requirements are added, the ordering is lost.

So, do I have to do the ordering and assignment to releases in one session, or is there a way to make the backlog remember the ordering?

There was a bug in some versions of v4.2.0.x that we fixed a while back (in v4.2.0.10), if you are running the latest version, please log a help desk ticket and let us know.
