The older versions of KronoDesk, SpiraTest, SpiraPlan and SpiraTeam use a third-party screenshot capture applet to provide screenshot capture functionality. This applet provides a way to capture screens from the system clipboard and upload them into the system.
Due to some general security issues with the Java platform, Sun/Oracle have released security patches that now prevent a sandboxed Java applet from accessing the system clipboard. Consequently the screenshot applet in the affected products with either not run or give a security warning/error.
These are our recommended steps to solve the issue:
- Upgrade to the latest version of SpiraTest, SpiraPlan or SpiraTeam (v184.108.40.206 or later) or KronoDesk (v220.127.116.11 or later). That will remove the Java applet and replace it with a native HTML5 clipboard capture solution. This however does only work in Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and Internet Explorer 11+. For older browsers, you will need to use the traditional file upload dialog box.
- If you cannot upgrade to the latest version right now or you have lots of users using the older browser versions, make sure you install Java 1.7.45 and turn off automatic updates. This is the last version of Java that allows the screenshot capture tool to work. If you are running a newer version than v1.7.45 you will need to downgrade to v1.7.45.
