Breaking a product up

Hi,

I am looking into breaking an existing product up into smaller products to help with release management between what are currently components in the larger product. I have looked at the Clone option for the whole product and Export option for artifacts and I'm not sure which is best suited here.

Should I clone the product several times and then remove what is unneeded from each or should I create empty products and export existing artifacts, deleting them after. Does it matter? Is there a better way?

Also, neither Clone or Export options takes the comments or history for the artifact. Any way to preserve this?

Thanks,

Alan

Hi Alan

I would probably use the Clone feature and then delete what you need, since that preserves more of the traceability between items. Another more comprehensive option would be to use the Project Backup & Migration Tool and then do the import multiple times (and then delete what you don't need) as it copies over more of the artifacts and the comments (I believe).

David
