Login session lifetime

Is the "keep me logged in" checkbox (pictured) connected to anything? If so, what's the session lifetime? It seems like I'm logged out several times during the day.

Under Administration->Security Settings there is a setting labeled Keep Me Logged-In Expiration.

This specifies the amount of time (in minutes) after which a user will be logged out due to inactivity if they have chosen to login with the 'Keep Me Logged-In' option.
