Why Is This Functionality Needed?
When we demonstrate the various Spira dashboards to customers, they love the flexibility and configurability, with the ability to create custom graphs and widgets, customize the settings and layout. However often managers want to be able to define a set of default views for their users, ensuring that they see critical pieces of information every day. Conversely busy executives want to be able to quickly log in and see the key metrics and KPIs suggested by their teams without needing to spend time configuring their dashboards. For this reason, we have updated and enhanced the dashboards to allow administrators to define default views for their users.
Product Admins Can Define Default Product Dashboards
When you connect to a Spira product that you have administration permissions for, you will see a new toggle icon in the top right. By default, the product home and reports dashboards will be in the mode that lets you customize the widgets and display just for your current user.
When you hover over the icons, you will see the different customization scopes:
If you click on the icon with 'multiple people' displayed, the dashboard will change to the 'shared scope' mode. This means that any customizations you make to the dashboard widgets will affect the default view for all users of the product.
You can switch between the two modes at any time, allowing you to customize certain things just for you, and other things for your entire team.
System Admins Can Define Default My Page
Similarly, for the My Page dashboard, system administrators can modify the default view for all users of the system. This can be useful for displaying certain widgets at the top of the page, enabling one of the SpiraApp widgets as a default item, or removing items that are not wanted (e.g. the news widget in air-gapped environments that have no Internet access).
To modify the default My Page for all users, simply choose the option to switch to "shared scope":
Then any changes you make will take effect for all users of the system as the default.
How Do I Override The Default View?
If you are an end-user, you can still make changes to any of the dashboards. The default views configured by administrators are simply the defaults, meaning that any changes made by users individually will always take precedence. This gives organizations the best balance between standardization for all users, and flexibility and customizability for individual users.
